Some parents know they want the carefully styled portraits of their baby alone. Others keep coming back to the photographs of their newborn against their chest, an older brother or sister leaning close, or the first portrait with everyone together. Often, the photographs that matter most come from a mix of all of those.

That is why I do not approach every newborn session the same way. I plan around the photographs you care about, give clear direction when it helps, and adjust the pace and sequence to the baby and family in front of me. The photographs can feel natural without leaving everything to chance.

Newborn sessions work best when preparation and flexibility live side by side. I come in with a plan, but I expect feeding, settling, an unexpectedly alert baby, or a sibling with a short attention span to change the order of what we do. That flexibility is built into the way I photograph newborns and families.

How Newborn Sessions Work with Real Baby Life

Your baby does not have to stay asleep. Some portraits are easier when your baby is sleeping, but awake moments can be beautiful too. I follow your baby’s cues and adjust as we go.

I pay attention to how you are holding your baby, where hands fall, how everyone is positioned, and the small adjustments that make a photograph work.

The direction is intentional, but the finished image should not feel rigid. My role is to help you look comfortable and connected while still creating a strong composition.

We can concentrate on the spaces that contribute something useful to the photographs—perhaps the nursery, bedroom, or another comfortable part of your home.

A few well-chosen areas are enough to give the photographs a sense of where these first weeks together actually happened. There is no need to prepare rooms we are unlikely to use.

Start by Choosing Studio or In-Home

Once you have a sense of the photographs that matter most to you, the setting becomes a meaningful part of the decision.

I live in Redmond, and my private newborn studio is a short drive away in Kirkland. For Redmond families, that makes a studio session much easier during the early days: you can have the benefits of a dedicated newborn studio without traveling far with a brand-new baby. If staying home feels like the better fit, I also photograph newborn sessions throughout Redmond.

In the studio, I have more control over the visual environment. Backgrounds, styling, and the photography space can be planned around the kind of session you have chosen, giving the finished gallery a deliberately cohesive setting.

At home, more of your own surroundings remain in the photographs. Your baby’s nursery, the bedroom where you spend so much of these first weeks, siblings moving through familiar spaces, pets, and the everyday context of being home together can all become part of what the photographs hold.

If you are drawn to a controlled, intentionally styled setting, the studio will usually make more sense. If you want your home itself to remain part of the photographs, an in-home session is the more natural fit.

Newborn Studio Sessions

My private Kirkland studio gives me the ability to shape the setting around the photographs we are creating, but a studio session does not automatically mean elaborate props or one particular style of newborn photography.

The studio options range from a fuller session with styled baby portraits and family photographs, to a simpler session with your baby remaining in your arms, to a focused baby-only session built around wrapped portraits.

The three sessions below are designed around different priorities. Start with the photographs you know you would be disappointed not to have, then choose the session that gives those photographs room to be the focus.

Newborn Studio Deluxe Session

The longer appointment also leaves room for feeding, settling, and breaks without rushing from one part of the session to the next.

We will create a mix of gently posed baby portraits, parent images, sibling photographs, family portraits, and newborn details.

The session includes five to ten setups with two color themes of your choice, along with wrapped and unwrapped photographs of your baby.

There is time for feeding, changing, soothing, and settling as we move through the session.

Choose this when
Choose Studio Deluxe for the widest range of newborn photographs in a single appointment.

It makes sense when parent, sibling, and family images matter as much as the posed baby portraits, or when you want enough variety for an album and framed wall art.

Another option may make more sense when
Choose Baby In Your Arms when the photographs you care about most are the ones with your baby held close and multiple prop setups are not important.

Choose Mini Wrapped when the photographs you want most are styled wrapped portraits of your baby and you prefer a shorter, more focused studio experience.

We photograph parents together and individually, along with small expressions, hands, closeness, and the connection that happens while you hold your baby. Because we are not moving through a series of styled prop setups, it is a simpler one-hour studio option and can also work well for older newborns up to 2 months.

Newborn In-Home Sessions

An in-home newborn session keeps more of these first weeks connected to the place where you are actually living them.

Your baby can be photographed with you, siblings, pets, and other family members while familiar rooms become part of the visual context. The nursery, your bedroom, or another part of your home can add details and a sense of place that would not exist in a studio.

The photographs are still intentionally directed. I help decide where we photograph, position everyone when needed, and work with the space in front of me so the images feel composed without losing the familiarity of home.

For Redmond families, an in-home session also means you can stay home with your baby while I come to you.

We include the nursery, bedroom, nursing photographs when requested, and the small details that connect the images to your home.

When should I book newborn photos?

I recommend booking before your baby arrives by choosing the date on my calendar closest to your due date. That date reserves your spot. Once your baby is here, we confirm the actual session date.

What if my baby is already here?

It is still worth reaching out. If your baby is already here, choose a preferred date from my calendar or contact me with your baby’s birth date. The date you select is not the actual shoot date until I confirm it, but it gives us a starting point.

If your baby is older than the earliest newborn window (5 to 21 days after birth), you still have options. The Baby In Your Arms session is available for babies up to 2 months old, and the In-Home Lifestyle session is available for babies up to 3 months old.

Is my baby too old for newborn photos?

Not necessarily.

The more posed studio newborn sessions usually work best between 5 and 21 days after birth. Older babies can still be photographed with an approach that depends less on sleepy newborn posing.

The Baby In Your Arms session and the In-Home Lifestyle session are the two options I usually recommend for older newborns.

What if my baby is awake or fussy?

That is normal. Newborn sessions include time for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and breaks. Some babies sleep deeply. Some are awake for part of the appointment. Some need more time in their parents’ arms.

I work with the baby in front of me and will not force a pose that does not make sense that day.

Which newborn session should I choose?

Choose Studio Deluxe when you want the most variety, including styled baby portraits, parent images, siblings, full-family photographs, and newborn details.

Choose Baby In Your Arms when the photographs you care about most are of you holding your baby and you prefer a simpler studio session without styled prop setups.

Choose Mini Wrapped when you love styled wrapped newborn portraits and want a shorter studio session focused entirely on your baby.

Choose In-Home Lifestyle when you want to stay home and include the people, pets, nursery, and familiar surroundings that are part of your baby’s everyday world.

Should I choose studio or in-home newborn photos?

Choose the studio when you want a prepared photography space and prefer one of the three studio approaches, from styled baby portraits to a simpler session centered on your baby in your arms.

Choose in-home when you want to stay home and include the nursery, bedroom, pets, and familiar surroundings in the photographs.

Are parent and sibling photos included?

That depends on the session you choose.

Studio Deluxe includes parent, sibling, and family portraits, and pets may also be included.

Baby In Your Arms centers on photographs of you holding your newborn, and siblings and pets may also be included.

Mini Wrapped keeps the entire session focused on your baby, so parent, sibling, and family photographs are not part of this option.

In-Home Lifestyle includes parents, siblings, and pets, and grandparents may also be included.

Can grandparents be included?

Grandparents can be included in the Newborn Studio Deluxe Session and the Newborn In-Home Lifestyle Session. Choose one of those options when grandparents are important to include.

Can we include our dog?

For in-home newborn sessions, pets can be included naturally in your home while remaining safely supervised.

For Studio Deluxe and Baby In Your Arms sessions, dogs may also be included. Please let me know at booking so I can plan their photographs. When your dog is not being photographed, they must remain securely controlled by a responsible adult or be moved to another safe location arranged in advance.

For studio sessions, please plan for a potty break before arrival, clean paws, dogs staying off furniture, and no roaming near props or photography equipment. Accidents, pet-caused damage, or excessive cleaning may result in a $100 cleanup fee.

What should we wear for newborn photos?

After booking, you will receive prep guidance and access to an online styling service.

Soft neutrals, light colors, gentle texture, and simple clothing generally photograph well. The outfits should feel connected without matching or distracting from the baby.

Do I need to bring anything to the studio?

Wraps, headbands, bonnets, blankets, baskets, and newborn props are provided when they are included with your session.

How should I prepare my home for an in-home newborn session?

Focus on a few likely areas, such as the nursery, primary bedroom, family room, or another space with good light. Make the bed if we may use the bedroom, clear the nightstands, and move obvious clutter from the areas where your family may sit or hold the baby.

We need a few usable spaces, not a fully styled home.

My studio is in downtown Kirkland at:

The studio is light-filled, private, and set up for newborn and family photos.

What time are newborn sessions scheduled?

Newborn sessions are typically scheduled around 11 a.m. for the best light. Timing may be adjusted when needed.

How soon will I receive my photos?

Your proof gallery is delivered within 4 days after your session. Final hand-edited images are delivered within 7 days after your selections.

Can I buy more images after I see the proof gallery?

Yes. Additional hand-edited images are available for $20 each.

Baby In Your Arms and In-Home Lifestyle also offer a $200 full-gallery upgrade with standard color correction. Studio Deluxe offers the same upgrade, excluding posed solo baby-with-props images. Mini Wrapped does not offer a full-gallery upgrade.

How does payment work?

A $100 deposit is required to book your newborn session. The remaining balance is due at the time of your session.

Do you photograph newborn twins?

Yes. Twins can be photographed with the Newborn Studio Deluxe Session. The twins add-on is +$500 to the base price.

Do you offer albums and framed wall art?

Yes. Custom, museum-quality albums, framed wall art, and canvases are available.
