Newborn photos happen during a busy, unpredictable season. Babies arrive on their own schedule, need feeding and soothing on their own rhythm, and older siblings may have their own ideas about participating.

I photograph newborns in my light-filled Kirkland studio and in homes throughout the Seattle area. I’ve worked with Seattle-area families since 2008, and I guide the posing, pacing, and small adjustments while keeping your baby’s comfort first. There is time for feeding, changing, soothing, and the normal pauses a newborn needs.

Depending on the session you choose, we may create styled solo portraits, photographs of your baby in your arms, sibling moments, or full-family images. You do not need to manage the session or make everything go according to plan. I adjust to the baby and family in front of me so we can create a varied, natural record of these early days without forcing a fixed shot list.

How Newborn Sessions Work with Real Baby Life

Awake or fussy babies are part of newborn photography. Feeding, soothing, diaper changes, wakefulness, and breaks are all expected. Your baby does not need to sleep through the entire appointment for us to create a beautiful gallery.

You will know what matters before the session. After booking, you receive preparation guidance and access to an online styling service. You will know what to bring, what to wear, and which details deserve your attention before the appointment.

I follow your baby’s cues and adjust as we go. We may pause for feeding, change the setup, simplify a pose, or give your baby some time in your arms before continuing.

Awake time or extra soothing does not mean the session is off track. We continue with the photographs your baby is comfortable giving us that day.
Baby comfort comes before a specific pose. I watch how your baby responds throughout the session. A pose may be simplified, changed, or skipped when another position is more comfortable or works better that day.
Babies do not all move, settle, sleep, or respond in the same way.

I use gentle posing and watch your baby’s response. If a position is not working, I adjust it or move to another setup rather than pushing for one particular photograph.

There is more than one way to create a beautiful newborn portrait.
You are not expected to manage the posing. You do not need to arrive knowing what to do in front of the camera. I guide where to stand, where to look, what to do with your hands, and how to settle naturally with your baby.
Parents are often balancing recovery, feeding, limited sleep, and the needs of more than one child. Directing the photographs should not become another job for you.

I guide the posing and small adjustments throughout the session. That may mean changing an angle, moving a hand, helping everyone stand closer, or showing an older sibling exactly where to sit.

You can focus on your baby while I pay attention to how the photograph is coming together.
Siblings are guided in short, realistic moments. Older siblings do not need to stay engaged for the entire appointment. I keep their part simple and work within the time, mood, and attention they can realistically give us that day.
Some children are ready immediately. Others need time to observe the studio, stay close to a parent, or take a break before joining in.

Sibling photographs may come from a quick snuggle, a kiss on the baby’s head, sitting nearby for a few seconds, or another small interaction your child can manage.

I watch for those brief opportunities so parents do not have to force smiles or cooperation.

This gives you a plan before birth without locking you into a date that may no longer make sense once your baby is here.
Only a few areas of your home need preparation. For in-home newborn photos, the baby is the star, not the house. We need a few workable areas with good light, not a spotless or fully decorated home from room to room.
I usually look for a few usable spaces, such as the nursery, primary bedroom, family room, or another area where your family can sit together near good light.

A made bed, cleared nightstands, and a small amount of decluttering in the likely photography areas are usually more helpful than cleaning the entire house.

Your home can still feel like your home. It does not need to become a styled photo set.
You will know what matters before the session. After booking, you receive preparation guidance and access to an online styling service. You will know what to bring, what to wear, and which details deserve your attention before the appointment.
Studio clients receive guidance on clothing, feeding, what to pack, and what to expect when they arrive.

In-home clients receive practical help with clothing and the few rooms we are most likely to use. You will not be asked to prepare every part of the house.

Clear preparation reduces last-minute decisions and lets you save more of your energy for your baby and family.

Start by Choosing Studio or In-Home

Choose the studio when you want a prepared setting, curated styling, and more control over the finished look. Everything needed for the session is ready before you arrive.

Choose in-home when staying home would make the day easier or when you want the nursery, bedroom, pets, and other familiar surroundings to be part of the photographs.

Both options follow your baby’s needs and include direction throughout. The difference is how much styling you want and whether you want your home to become part of the photographs.

Studio newborn sessions take place in my private Kirkland studio, where everything is prepared before you arrive. Depending on the session you choose, we may focus on styled baby portraits, photographs of you holding your newborn, or a fuller mix of baby and family images. I take care of the setups, posing, and pacing so you can focus on your baby while I guide the session from one part to the next.

The longer appointment also leaves room for feeding, settling, and breaks without rushing from one part of the session to the next.

We will create a mix of gently posed baby portraits, parent images, sibling photographs, family portraits, and newborn details.

The session includes five to ten setups with two color themes of your choice, along with wrapped and unwrapped photographs of your baby.

There is time for feeding, changing, soothing, and settling as we move through the session.

Choose Studio Deluxe for the widest range of newborn photographs in a single appointment.

It makes sense when parent, sibling, and family images matter as much as the posed baby portraits, or when you want enough variety for an album and framed wall art.

We photograph parents together and individually, along with small expressions, hands, closeness, and the connection that happens while you hold your baby. Because we are not moving through a series of styled prop setups, it is a simpler one-hour studio option and can also work well for older newborns up to 2 months.

The studio setup remains simple so the attention stays on your baby and the connection between you.

During the session, we move through the three wrapped setups at your baby’s pace. There is still time for feeding, changing, soothing, and settling whenever your newborn needs it.

The result is a varied but visually cohesive collection that keeps the attention on your baby.

Staying home reduces the work of packing, traveling, and helping toddlers and pets adjust to an unfamiliar place. It also allows the photographs to include the nursery, bedroom, and the spaces connected to your baby’s first days.

Your home does not need to look like a magazine. A few prepared areas with workable light are enough. In-home newborn sessions are available throughout the Seattle area.

We include the nursery, bedroom, nursing photographs when requested, and the small details that connect the images to your home.

Newborn Session Questions, Answered

When should I book newborn photos?

I recommend booking before your baby arrives by choosing the date on my calendar closest to your due date. That date reserves your spot. Once your baby is here, we confirm the actual session date.

What if my baby is already here?

It is still worth reaching out. If your baby is already here, choose a preferred date from my calendar or contact me with your baby’s birth date. The date you select is not the actual shoot date until I confirm it, but it gives us a starting point.

If your baby is older than the earliest newborn window (5 to 21 days after birth), you still have options. The Baby In Your Arms session is available for babies up to 2 months old, and the In-Home Lifestyle session is available for babies up to 3 months old.

Is my baby too old for newborn photos?

Not necessarily.

The more posed studio newborn sessions usually work best between 5 and 21 days after birth. Older babies can still be photographed with an approach that depends less on sleepy newborn posing.

The Baby In Your Arms session and the In-Home Lifestyle session are the two options I usually recommend for older newborns.

What if my baby is awake or fussy?

That is normal. Newborn sessions include time for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and breaks. Some babies sleep deeply. Some are awake for part of the appointment. Some need more time in their parents’ arms.

I work with the baby in front of me and will not force a pose that does not make sense that day.

Which newborn session should I choose?

Choose Studio Deluxe when you want the most variety, including styled baby portraits, parent images, siblings, full-family photographs, and newborn details.

Choose Baby In Your Arms when the photographs you care about most are of you holding your baby and you prefer a simpler studio session without styled prop setups.

Choose Mini Wrapped when you love styled wrapped newborn portraits and want a shorter studio session focused entirely on your baby.

Choose In-Home Lifestyle when you want to stay home and include the people, pets, nursery, and familiar surroundings that are part of your baby’s everyday world.

Should I choose studio or in-home newborn photos?

Choose the studio when you want a prepared setting, newborn props, curated setups, wraps, and a more styled final look.

Choose in-home when you want to stay home, include pets more easily, photograph the nursery or bedroom, or connect the photographs to your baby’s first weeks at home.

Are parent and sibling photos included?

That depends on the session you choose.

Studio Deluxe includes parent, sibling, and family portraits, and pets may also be included.

Baby In Your Arms centers on photographs of you holding your newborn, and siblings and pets may also be included.

Mini Wrapped keeps the entire session focused on your baby, so parent, sibling, and family photographs are not part of this option.

In-Home Lifestyle includes parents, siblings, and pets, and grandparents may also be included.

Can grandparents be included?

Grandparents can be included in the Newborn Studio Deluxe Session and the Newborn In-Home Lifestyle Session. Choose one of those options when grandparents are important to include.

Can we include our dog?

For in-home newborn sessions, pets can be included naturally in your home while remaining safely supervised.

For Deluxe and Baby In Your Arms studio sessions, small and mid-sized dogs may be included. Please let me know at booking so I can plan their photographs. When your dog is not being photographed, they must remain securely controlled by a responsible adult or be moved to another safe location arranged in advance.

For studio sessions, please plan for a potty break before arrival, clean paws, dogs staying off furniture, and no roaming near props or photography equipment. Accidents, pet-caused damage, or excessive cleaning may result in a $100 cleanup fee.

What should we wear for newborn photos?

After booking, you will receive prep guidance and access to an online styling service.

Soft neutrals, light colors, gentle texture, and simple clothing generally photograph well. The outfits should feel connected without matching or distracting from the baby.

Do I need to bring anything to the studio?

Wraps, headbands, bonnets, blankets, baskets, and newborn props are provided when they are included with your session.

How should I prepare my home for an in-home newborn session?

Focus on a few likely areas, such as the nursery, primary bedroom, family room, or another space with good light. Make the bed if we may use the bedroom, clear the nightstands, and move obvious clutter from the areas where your family may sit or hold the baby.

We need a few usable spaces, not a fully styled home.

The studio is light-filled, private, and set up for newborn and family photos.

What time are newborn sessions scheduled?

Newborn sessions are typically scheduled around 11 a.m. for the best light. Timing may be adjusted when needed.

How soon will I receive my photos?

Your proof gallery is delivered within 4 days after your session. Final hand-edited images are delivered within 7 days after your selections.

Can I buy more images after I see the proof gallery?

Yes. Additional hand-edited images are available for $20 each.

Baby In Your Arms and In-Home Lifestyle also offer a $200 full-gallery upgrade with standard color correction. Studio Deluxe offers the same upgrade, excluding posed solo baby-with-props images. Mini Wrapped does not offer a full-gallery upgrade.

How does payment work?

Do you photograph newborn twins?

Yes. Twins can be photographed with the Newborn Studio Deluxe Session. The twins add-on is +$500 to the base price.

Do you offer albums and framed wall art?

Yes. Custom, museum-quality albums, framed wall art, and canvases are available.
