Parents frame their swaddled newborn in a cozy Seattle studio newborn family photoshoot, baby smiling softly in their arms

Those first weeks with your baby feel soft, fragile, and a little unreal. Time stretches and folds in strange ways. You’re falling in love and finding your rhythm. And in the quiet moments, between feedings, diaper changes, and figuring out a new normal, you’re holding a tiny person who will never be this small again.

I created the Studio Newborn Deluxe Session for this exact chapter. For families who want beautiful newborn photos that capture the connection, wonder, and emotion of the early days.

This is my most complete newborn family photography experience: gentle, unhurried, thoughtfully structured, and designed to take all the guesswork out of the process. If you want natural images that reflect your family’s connection, this is the session for you.

On this page:

What Makes the Newborn Deluxe Session Special

Before we dive into the details, here’s a closer look at why so many families choose the Newborn Deluxe Studio Session, and what makes it such a meaningful experience from start to finish.

A calm experience
You’ll have up to 3 hours during your session, so nothing feels rushed. It’s perfect for feeding, changing, rocking, and settling your newborn.

Gently guided, natural posing
You’ll always know what to do without ever feeling posed. I guide you softly into natural, comfortable positions that highlight connection, not stiffness.

A wide variety of looks
We’ll capture 5–10 setups, including wrapped, unwrapped, natural, and gently posed baby portraits in two colour themes you choose. Your gallery will feel complete, balanced, and perfect for albums and framed pieces.

Designed for families
Siblings, parents, and even grandparents can be included. I guide your family through gentle, natural posing that prioritizes comfort and connection.

Ideal for heirloom artwork
The variety and depth we create here make it perfect for albums, story-driven wall galleries, and timeless statement pieces.

An experienced photographer by your side
Since 2008, I’ve photographed thousands of newborns and families. You can rest assured that the pace, posing, lighting, and baby-led flow are handled with experience and intention.

What’s Included in the Newborn Deluxe Session and Other Details

Parents and toddler sibling admire their newborn during a Seattle newborn family photoshoot, baby swaddled in white with a peaceful smile

Every part of the Deluxe Session is designed to support a relaxed, enjoyable experience. Here’s what you can expect when you book this newborn family photoshoot.

Session Length
You’ll have up to 3 hours in the studio. That time is intentional; it gives us room to feed, soothe, change diapers, and take breaks whenever your baby needs them.

Session Customization
After you book, I’ll ask a few questions to tailor the session to your color preferences and whether you want more baby-only portraits, more family involvement, or a balanced mix of everything.

Baby Portraits
The Deluxe Session includes 5–10 setups with a mix of wrapped and unwrapped baby portraits, styled across two color themes you choose, so your gallery has real variety while still feeling cohesive. Everything needed for baby portraits is provided in the studio (wraps, backgrounds, and newborn styling pieces).

Twins are welcome (with an additional fee that covers an assistant).

Family Portraits
Parent, sibling, and grandparent portraits are included. I typically aim for a complete set of combinations (full family, baby with both parents, baby with each parent, and siblings with baby).

Images + Selection

Hand-editing is a more detailed and artistic process than basic color correction. It includes skin smoothing, blemish and bruise removal, and fly-away cleanup, giving your newborn photos that beautifully polished, yet natural finish.

Location and Timing
Sessions take place in my cozy and warm Downtown Kirkland studio. Sessions begin at 11 a.m. for soft, beautiful natural light.

Age Recommendation
Best between 5 days and 3 weeks old—sleepy, curled, and still in that dreamy newborn stage.

Seasonal Florals (Optional Add-On)
If you love a soft, organic look in your newborn photos, you can also add seasonal florals to your session. I select blooms that complement your chosen color palette, creating a subtle, natural aesthetic.

Artwork Options
Your Deluxe Session gallery offers a wide range of images that work beautifully for heirloom albums, framed statement pieces, fine-art canvases, and float frames. Every session includes a print release, giving you the freedom to print your images wherever you like for personal use.

If you prefer a done-for-you, museum-quality option, I also offer a curated collection of albums and wall art crafted with premium materials. I’m happy to walk you through these choices during your session prep so you can select the options that fit your home.

In Client’s Words
“We booked Lana for our studio newborn session. She was flexible with finding a date when our little one came 5 weeks early and was very clear about what to expect and how to prepare for the session. Her studio setup is excellent, with every prop, headband, wrap, etc., you could want, and she poses the baby carefully and skillfully. Once the photos were edited, it was easy to navigate the gallery and select images for hand editing. We ended up upgrading to get all of our photos, because we just couldn’t choose out of all of the amazing shots she got! We will cherish these photos forever.” —Allison, Google review

Newborn + Older Siblings

Older siblings bring a different energy than toddlers, often calmer, sometimes a little reserved, sometimes very proud. These sessions typically include more family combinations, plus sibling moments that feel relaxed rather than overly posed.

Best Timing for Your Newborn Deluxe Session

Sleeping newborn in an all-white outfit with a floral headband, posed on a soft knit layer for a Seattle newborn family photography studio session

When should we book?

I recommend booking during your second or early third trimester to reserve a spot. You’ll choose the date closest to your due date as a placeholder, and once your baby arrives, we finalize the exact session date.

What if the baby arrives early or late, or mom needs extra time to recover?

Completely normal. We adjust once your baby is here. While 5–21 days is ideal for the sleepy newborn look, sessions outside that range can still produce beautiful results. I’ll guide expectations and keep the experience calm.

Prefer to stay home during those early weeks?
You can also choose a relaxed, in-home newborn lifestyle session to capture beautiful, natural family newborn photos without leaving your home.

Artwork and Albums

Newborn curled in a parent’s hands on a dark backdrop, wearing a floral headband during a Seattle newborn family photoshoot in studio

Digital images are wonderful for preserving this season. The long-term joy, though, tends to come when those images turn into something you’ll actually see in your home.

The Deluxe Session is especially well-suited for artwork because you receive:

What families often create from a Deluxe gallery:

Every purchased image includes a print release, so you’re free to print for personal use.

If you prefer a done-for-you option, I also offer a curated collection of museum-quality albums and wall art made with premium materials, and I’m happy to walk you through what fits your home during session prep or after your session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dad kisses newborn’s forehead as parents hold baby close during a Seattle newborn family photoshoot, soft knit wrap and gentle connection

New parents often have questions, and this section is here to make things feel simple and reassuring. These are the most common things families ask when planning their newborn family photoshoot.

How do newborn family photos differ from traditional newborn photography?

Newborn family photos focus on your connection, emotions, and the story of your growing family, rather than just the baby alone. Traditional newborn photography often centers on posed baby-only images, while family-focused sessions include parents, siblings, and the relationships that make this chapter meaningful. This approach captures the way your baby fits into your arms, the expressions between siblings, and the tenderness shared as you settle into early parenthood. The result is a gallery that feels personal, meaningful, and rooted in your family’s story.

Is newborn photography really worth it?

The newborn stage is incredibly brief, and professional photos preserve the tiny details that disappear almost overnight. A trained newborn photographer brings years of experience in posing, lighting, baby safety, and styling to create images that feel intentional and timeless. What looks effortless in your final gallery is supported by careful planning, soothing, hundreds of frames, and detailed hand-editing. These images often become some of the most cherished pieces families own, growing more meaningful as your baby grows. For most families, the experience and the lasting value make it well worth the investment.

For a deeper dive: Are Newborn Photos Worth It? 8 Common Reasons Parents Hesitate

How do I choose the right newborn photographer?

Look for someone whose style feels timeless to you and whose images you can see your family in years from now. Experience is also essential as newborn photography requires training in baby safety, posing, lighting, and creating a calm environment where you can relax. Pay attention to the photographer’s pricing transparency, communication style, and whether their process feels organized and supportive. It also helps to read reviews and see how families describe their experience. Most importantly, choose someone whose work and approach make you feel safe, understood, and genuinely cared for.

For more on this: How to Find the Right Newborn Photographer for You

What if I’m not feeling my best after birth?

It’s completely normal to feel tired or still be recovering in those early weeks. Newborn sessions photograph beautifully anytime within the first 3 weeks, which gives you a little more time to rest, prepare, and settle in. And I’m always flexible, adjusting your session date to accommodate your needs. I provide a detailed prep guide to help with outfit planning, including recommendations for makeup artists to make getting ready feel easier. Once you arrive, I guide you gently through the session so nothing feels overwhelming. Many parents tell me the experience feels far more peaceful and supportive than they expected.

Do you retouch baby acne, jaundice, or scratches?

Newborn skin changes quickly, and things like flaky skin, redness, baby acne, and small scratches are completely normal. My editing approach is to soften temporary blemishes while keeping your baby’s skin looking real and timeless, with natural tones that will still feel true to this season years from now.

With jaundice, the best solution is often time. If your baby is noticeably yellow, it’s usually best to wait a few extra days for it to clear up naturally, rather than trying to “fix” it entirely in editing. If that happens, we can talk through your timing and adjust the session date when it makes sense.

What if my baby won’t sleep?

The Deluxe Session is intentionally designed with plenty of time for soothing, feeding, and helping your baby settle. Awake babies also photograph beautifully, and I can capture tiny expressions, eye contact, and natural movements just as they are. Many families end up loving a mix of both sleepy and awake images. I adjust the flow based on what your baby needs in each moment, so everything still feels calm and seamless. Whether your little one sleeps soundly or stays alert, you’ll end up with a meaningful, well-rounded gallery.

What if my toddler won’t cooperate?

It’s completely normal for toddlers to have big feelings or short attention spans during a newborn session. I structure the flow with this in mind, starting with sibling and family photos while they’re still fresh and giving them space to warm up at their own pace. I never force poses; instead, I guide gently and follow their energy to create natural, genuine moments. Mini breaks, movement, and simple prompts all help keep things positive. Even if your toddler is busy, shy, or uninterested, we always find ways to capture meaningful images of your growing family.

Can grandparents be included?

Absolutely. Grandparents bring a layer of love, history, and tenderness that adds so much meaning to your newborn gallery. If they’ll be joining, just let me know ahead of time so I can plan the flow and pacing accordingly. I keep these portraits simple, natural, and heartfelt, focusing on connection rather than posed perfection.

What if someone in our family is sick?

If anyone in the family is sick, I’ll ask you to reschedule for everyone’s safety and well-being, as I want the studio to remain a safe space for all families.

When should I book my newborn session?

I recommend booking your newborn session during your second or early third trimester to secure a spot on my calendar. Since babies arrive on their own schedule, you’ll choose the date closest to your due date, and we’ll finalize the actual session once your baby is here. This approach gives you flexibility while ensuring I can accommodate you when your baby arrives. Booking early also gives you access to the prep guide and styling support, helping you feel ready well before the session day.

For a deeper dive into this topic: When to Schedule Your Newborn Photos: A Practical Guide for Real Life

What if my baby arrives early or late?

Babies rarely arrive exactly on their due date, so every newborn session is booked with flexibility in mind. Once your baby is born, you’ll let me know, and we’ll adjust your session date to a time that works best for your little one and your recovery. While the 5–21 day window is ideal for the sleepy, curled newborn look, sessions outside that range can still photograph beautifully. My goal is to make the scheduling process as relaxed and seamless as the session itself.

What’s the difference between this and your Mini newborn session?

The Deluxe Session offers the most variety, time, and flexibility, making it ideal for families who want a wide range of setups and a more spacious, unhurried experience. With up to three hours in the studio, there’s plenty of room for soothing, feeding, sibling involvement, and multiple looks for your baby. It includes a larger variety of photos in your gallery and is especially well-suited for families planning albums or wall art. The Mini session is a shorter, simpler option for families who want beautiful newborn photos without as many setups or family portraits. Both sessions create meaningful images; it just depends on the level of variety and the session experience that you prefer.
