Seattle Family Photography for Every Stage of Growing Up

“Scheduling was so easy. And on the day of, Lana was so prepared. She had a plan and was great with our kids. The photos are extraordinary and captured personalities perfectly.” –Lindsey K.
Family life changes quietly. One year your child still climbs into your lap. Then their legs are longer, the smile is different, a front tooth is missing, or the calendar starts to belong more to them than to you.

That is usually when families start thinking about photos again.

I offer outdoor, seasonal, and studio family sessions for Seattle-area families who want beautiful photos without planning every detail alone. I help with the location, outfits, and posing, while keeping the process streamlined.

Whether you are photographing young kids, older kids, grandparents, or a family reunion, the purpose is simple: photos that look like your family in this season, before everyone changes again.

How I Make Family Sessions Easier from Start to Finish

You do not need to know how to pose, where to stand, or how to keep everyone looking natural. I guide the session, so you can be in the photos instead of trying to manage them.
Most people feel a little awkward in front of the camera at first. That is expected.

My job is to keep the session moving and give you clear direction along the way. I’ll help with where to stand, how close to get, what to do with your hands, when to look at me, when to look at each other, and how to pull everyone in without making it feel stiff.

That direction makes a big difference. You are not left wondering what to do next, and your family is not expected to perform perfectly for the camera.

We will still get the classic portraits, but the session will also include movement, smaller combinations, and the in-between moments where everyone starts to relax and act more like themselves.
Family photos are not only for babies and toddlers. I also photograph older kids, grandparents, cousins, extended families, and the rare weekends when everyone is finally together.
A lot of families are good about taking photos when their children are very young, and then several years pass.

But older kids change too. Missing teeth become braces. Little kids become tweens. Teenagers start looking more grown up. Grandparents age. Cousins who used to be small together are suddenly taller than you expected.

Sometimes the reason for photos is not a stage at all. It is a gathering.

Grandparents are visiting. Extended family is in town. Everyone is together for a birthday, holiday, or reunion, and you know it may be a long time before that happens again.

For larger family sessions, I help plan the session so we can photograph the full group, smaller family units, grandparents with grandchildren, siblings, couples, and the combinations you will actually want later.
What you wear affects the final photos, so I do not leave you to figure it out alone. After booking, I’ll help you think through clothing that works with your setting, season, and family.
Clothing affects the mood of the photos, the way everyone looks together, and how easy the images are to print or display. A busy pattern, harsh color, or mismatched mix can pull attention away from faces and relationships.

That does not mean everyone has to match, wear only neutrals, or buy all new clothes. It means the clothing should be chosen with the session in mind.

After booking, I’ll help you think through color, texture, pattern, comfort, and how the outfits work with your location, season, or studio setting.

A good starting point is usually the person who feels hardest to dress, often Mom. Once that outfit is chosen, it becomes much easier to build the rest of the family around it.
Seattle weather is part of planning outdoor photos. I monitor the forecast before your session and reschedule when steady rain or uncomfortable temperature is expected.
I keep an eye on the weather as your session gets closer. If steady rain, high winds, or uncomfortable conditions are expected, we will move the session to another date.

Cloudy skies are not usually a problem. In many cases, soft overcast light photographs beautifully.

The question is whether the weather will make the session uncomfortable, unsafe, or unrealistic for your family. If it will, we adjust.

And if you would rather avoid weather and sunset timing completely, my studio gives you a simple indoor option.
Some families need a short update. Others need a longer session for more variety. My session options are designed so you can choose based on this year, this stage, and who needs to be included.
Some years, you may only need a shorter session: new photos for frames, cards, grandparents, or because your kids already look different than they did last year.

Other years need more room.

Maybe grandparents are joining. Maybe extended family is together. Maybe you want a colorful seasonal setting. Maybe your kids are older and you want more than a quick phone photo before the next stage arrives.

That is why the session options are structured differently. A mini session gives you a simple update. A deluxe session gives us more time and variety. Seasonal sessions give you a setting that only happens for a short part of the year. Studio sessions keep the planning simple. Extended-family options let us include more people when the gathering itself is the reason for the photos.

You do not have to wait for the perfect occasion. You just need the session that matches this year, this stage, and the people you want photographed.
Pricing is clear, booking is online, and session prep is provided. You do not have to email back and forth just to understand what is included, what it costs, or how to get on the calendar.
I designed the booking process to be as straightforward as possible.

You can see pricing before you inquire, choose the session that makes sense for your family, book online, and pay the deposit without waiting through a long email chain. Once you are booked, I send the session details and prep information so you know what to expect before the day of your photos.

After the session, you will receive your gallery quickly, choose your images, and get your final photos without the process dragging on for weeks.
Every session includes digital images so you can print on your own from a printing company of your choice. If you want help, I also offer museum-quality prints and albums for your home.
Digital images are included with every family session because you should have flexibility.

You can print on your own, make cards, send images to grandparents, share them online, or save them for later. But I do not think your favorite family photos should disappear into a folder you rarely open.

These are the photos your kids may pass in the hallway every day. The portraits grandparents keep in their home. The images you may come back to years from now and see differently because that stage has already passed.

You may want one framed portrait, a small series of images, gifts for grandparents, or museum-quality prints that feel finished and easy to live with in your home.

You do not have to decide that before the session. Once you see your gallery, I can help you choose what is worth printing and how to turn those images into something you actually see.

Choose Your Family Session

Start with the session type that makes the most sense for your family this year: an outdoor location with room to move, a seasonal setting that is only available for a short time, or a simple indoor option at the Kirkland studio.

Each section below explains the session options and what is included. Once you choose, online booking takes only a few minutes.

Family Outdoor Sessions

Outdoor sessions are for families who want natural light, movement, and more room for family combinations.

Choose a mini session for a shorter update, or a deluxe session when you want more time, more variety, or need to photograph a larger group.

Outdoor Family Deluxe Session

A full outdoor family session with more time, more variety, and your choice of any of my outdoor locations
This is the best choice for families who want a fuller gallery from one session. We have time for the whole family, individual children, siblings, parent-child moments, movement, pets, and the smaller interactions that often become favorites. The longer session gives kids time to warm up and gives us flexibility when your family needs a few pauses along the way.

What this session looks like
This is the most spacious outdoor family option. We will have time for the classic portraits most families want, but the session will not depend on everyone standing still and smiling at the same time.

We can move through the location, give kids small things to do, pause when someone needs a minute, and create a fuller mix of images: the whole family, each child, siblings together, each parent with the kids, pets when included, and the smaller in-between moments that often become favorites.

With more time, the session can feel relaxed without losing structure. We can work through the important combinations, adjust when kids need a reset, and still leave room for movement, connection, and the unexpected moments that make the gallery feel more personal.

Best for

  • Families who want the most variety from one session
  • Families with multiple children or kids who may need time to warm up
  • Parents who want individual child portraits, sibling photos, parent-child images, and a wider range of full-family
  • photos
  • Families including grandparents
  • Families who want more flexibility around movement, timing, and family combinations

Not the best fit for

  • Families who want a short, focused update
  • Families who prefer a simple studio setup without planning around weather or sunset
  • Families who only need a small set of updated photos for cards or frames

Images included
This session includes 25 hand-edited high-resolution digital images, chosen by you from a proof gallery of 80 to 100 images. Additional hand-edited images and a full gallery upgrade are available for purchase after you view your proofs.

Session duration
This session includes up to 1 hour of shooting time. The extra time gives us room to move through the location, work through several family combinations, and let kids settle into the session instead of rushing every image.

Who can be included and what we’ll photograph
The base session price includes your immediate family and grandparents.

We can photograph the full family, individual photos of each child, siblings together, each parent with the kids, grandparents with the family, and naturally posed family images throughout the location.

You do not need to figure out outfits or what to expect on your own. The prep guidance will help you think through clothing, kid readiness, and the small details that make session day easier.

A family portrait of dad hugging his two daughters at a beach with lake and mountains in the background

What this session looks like
This is a shorter family session with a stronger Pacific Northwest feel.

Rattlesnake Lake gives us lake, mountain, and evergreen scenery without turning the session into a long outdoor adventure. We will move through the most important family combinations, use the setting for variety, and keep the pace manageable for kids with shorter attention spans.

This is a good choice when you want more scenery than a typical local park session, but still want a shorter session. We will prioritize the full family, children, siblings, parent-child moments, pets when included, and a few images that show the lake and mountain setting.

Best for

  • Families who want a shorter session with a more dramatic outdoor setting
  • Families who love the lake, mountain, and evergreen look
  • Clients who do not mind driving to North Bend for a more distinctive backdrop
  • Families who want updated photos without the fuller variety of the Deluxe Session
  • A scenic session that still stays short and focused

Not the best fit for

  • Families who want the shortest drive or a more local Eastside option
  • Children who need a slower session with more warm-up time
  • Extended family groups
  • Families who prefer an indoor option that is not dependent on weather, sunset timing, or outdoor conditions

Images included
This session includes 10 hand-edited high-resolution digital images, chosen by you from a proof gallery of 40 to 60 images. Additional hand-edited images and a full gallery upgrade are available for purchase after you view your proofs.

Your purchased images include a print release for personal printing.

Session duration
This session includes up to 20 minutes of shooting time. The session is focused and efficient, so we will prioritize the main family combinations and the scenic backdrop rather than trying to create the broader range of a full Deluxe Session.

Who can be included and what we’ll photograph
The base session price covers immediate family only. Grandparents are welcome to join for an additional fee.

We can photograph the full family, individual photos of each child, siblings together, siblings with each parent, and photos with pets.

Pets
Dogs are welcome at this outdoor session. Please plan for someone to hold the leash or help with your pup when they are not being photographed.

Location
This session takes place at Rattlesnake Lake in North Bend, WA, about a 40-minute drive from Seattle and the Eastside. The location is a good choice when you want a more nature-forward setting with lake, mountain, and evergreen scenery.

For the best light, this session is usually scheduled 60 to 90 minutes before sunset. The start time may need to shift by up to 30 minutes depending on light and weather, so please keep your schedule a little flexible that day.

For this location, prep is especially helpful because the setting is more scenic and outdoorsy. I’ll help you think through clothing, shoes, layers, and the practical details that make the session easier.

Seasonal Family Outdoor Sessions

Seasonal sessions are for families who want a setting that is only available for a short part of the year. These sessions are more date- and location-specific, but they give the gallery a distinct seasonal look.

Lavender Farm Mini Session

A shorter private lavender farm session for families who want a colorful, one-of-a-kind seasonal backdrop
The Lavender Farm Mini is for families who want something more unique than a typical park session: rows of lavender, soft summer color, open farm scenery, and the feeling of a private seasonal event. This option works well if you are comfortable with the drive and want a beautiful setting that only happens for a small window each year.

Family of three standing together in blooming lavender rows during a warm evening lavender farm session.
Dad holding his young daughter among lavender blooms during a Seattle-area family photography session.

What this session looks like
This is a shorter family session at a private lavender farm in Sequim, photographed during a reserved event at the farm.

The setting is the main reason families choose this session. Lavender gives the gallery a colorful, distinctive look that feels very different from that of a regular outdoor location. We will use the rows, open space, and evening light to create family photos that feel seasonal and memorable without turning the session into a themed setup.

Because this is a mini session, we will keep the plan clear and use the time intentionally. We will prioritize full-family photos, individual child portraits, sibling portraits, parent-child moments, and a few wider images featuring the lavender farm backdrop.

Best for

  • Families who want the lavender farm look in a shorter session
  • Clients comfortable making the longer drive to Sequim
  • Families who want updated photos with soft color, warm light, and a quieter farm backdrop
  • Children who do well with a focused session and a clear plan
  • A seasonal gallery without needing the fuller variety of the Deluxe Session

Not the best fit for

  • Families who want the shortest drive or a local location
  • More time, more combinations, or a slower pace for kids to warm up
  • Clients who prefer a regular outdoor session that is not tied to one seasonal window

Because the session is short, we will keep the flow focused and move efficiently through the most important family combinations.

Who can be included and what we’ll photograph
The base session price covers immediate family only. Grandparents are welcome to join for an additional fee.

We can photograph the full family, individual photos of each child, siblings together, siblings with each parent, and photos with pets.

Pets
Dogs are welcome at this session. Please plan for someone to hold the leash or help with your pup when they are not being photographed.

Location
This session takes place in Sequim, WA at a private lavender farm. The location is best for families who specifically want the lavender look and are comfortable with the longer drive from Seattle or the Eastside.

Time of day
This session is scheduled 90 minutes before sunset. The start time may need to shift by up to 30 minutes depending on the light and weather, so please keep your schedule flexible that day.

Prep help
After booking, you’ll receive a detailed prep guide and online styling support. For lavender sessions, outfit planning matters because the field already adds color and texture. The prep guidance will help you choose clothing that works with the setting without making everyone look too matched.

Weather and rescheduling
I monitor the forecast before outdoor seasonal sessions. When steady rain or unsafe conditions are expected, we will reschedule.

Turnaround
You’ll receive your proof gallery within 4 days after your session. After you choose your images, final hand-edits are delivered within 7 days of your selections.

What this session looks like
This is a shorter late-summer family session in a sunflower field.

The setting is brighter and more colorful, with warm yellow flowers and room for families to move, walk, and interact naturally. We will keep the session organized, with time for full-family photos, individual child images, siblings together, and parent-child combinations.

  • Families who want colorful late-summer photos before the shift into fall
  • A brighter, warmer seasonal look
  • Children who enjoy walking, moving, and having a little space
  • Families who want a shorter outdoor session

The base session price covers up to four people.

We can photograph the full family, individual photos of each child, siblings together, and siblings with each parent.

Additional people are welcome for an additional fee.

Pets
Pets are not permitted in the sunflower fields because of farm policies. When including your dog matters, one of the dog-friendly outdoor family sessions will be a better match.

Location
This session takes place at Lora’s Lees Family Farm in Duvall, WA. The farm is about 20 minutes from the Eastside and about 40 minutes from Seattle.

Time of day
This session is scheduled 90 to 120 minutes before sunset. The start time may need to shift by up to 30 minutes depending on the light and weather, so please keep your schedule flexible that day.

Prep help
After booking, you’ll receive a detailed prep guide and online styling support. For sunflower sessions, I’ll help you think through clothing that works with the warmer field color, so your family coordinates with the setting without competing with it.

Weather and rescheduling
I monitor the forecast before outdoor seasonal sessions. When steady rain or unsafe conditions are expected, we will reschedule.

Family Session Questions, Answered

What if my kids do not cooperate?

They do not need to be perfect for the session to work. Most kids need some time to warm up, move around, get silly, or take a quick reset with a parent. I expect that, and I’ll guide the session with movement, simple prompts, shorter posed moments, and small adjustments as we go.

I’ll make every reasonable effort to engage your children and capture natural expressions, but children’s moods vary, so no specific smile, pose, or expression can be guaranteed. The goal is to work with your kids as they are, not make the whole session depend on perfect behavior.

Should we choose a mini session or a deluxe session?

Choose a mini session when you want a shorter, focused update and your family does well with a clear plan. Minis are a good choice for yearly family photos, holiday cards, quick milestone updates, or kids with shorter attention spans.

Choose a deluxe session for more time, more combinations, and more flexibility. The longer session gives us room for full-family portraits, individual child photos, siblings together, parent-child moments, movement, pets, and pauses when your kids need a little time to settle in.

The simplest way to decide: a mini gives you a strong set of updated photos. A deluxe session gives you the fullest gallery and a less rushed pace.

Should we book an outdoor, seasonal outdoor, or studio family session?

Choose an outdoor family session for natural light, movement, and a setting with room for your kids to walk, play, cuddle, and interact.

Choose a seasonal outdoor session when you want your photos tied to a specific time of year or setting. These sessions rotate throughout the year and may include fields, blooms, fall color, tree farm, or other seasonal backdrops.

Choose a studio family session for the simplest planning option. The studio is clean, cozy, weather-proof, and easy to repeat as your children grow.

None of these is the best session for everyone. The right choice depends on your kids, your schedule, the look you want, and how much time or variety you need.

How can we tell if your family photography style is the right fit for us?

My family photography style is a good fit if you want photos that feel natural, connected, and centered on your family instead of overly posed or heavily styled.

I’ll guide the session so you are not left wondering what to do, but I am not trying to make your family look stiff or overly perfect. The goal is a mix of classic portraits, movement, parent-child moments, sibling photos, and the little expressions that feel true to your kids right now.

If you love clean editing, natural light, soft color, real connection, and photos that still feel like your family years from now, my style will probably feel like a good match. If you are looking for a very dramatic, fashion-inspired, heavily posed, or highly themed session, another photographer may be a better fit.

What should we wear for family photos?

After booking, you’ll receive a prep guide and online styling support, so you do not have to figure it out alone.

A good place to start is with the person who feels hardest to dress, often Mom. Choose one outfit that feels good, then build everyone else around it with colors and textures that work together without matching exactly.

You do not need everyone in white or beige. Soft color, subtle pattern, layers, and texture can all photograph beautifully when the overall look feels connected and not too busy. The main goal is for everyone to look coordinated while still being able to move, sit, hold kids, and feel like themselves.

Can grandparents or extended family join?

It depends on the session.

The Outdoor Family Deluxe Session includes immediate family and grandparents in the base price. Other extended family members can be added with the Extended Family add-on.

The Outdoor Family Mini Sessions and Studio Family Mini Session include immediate family in the base price, and grandparents may be added for an additional fee.

For larger extended-family groups, the Outdoor Family Deluxe Session or the Studio Family Mini Session with the Extended Family add-on is usually the better choice, as we need enough time to photograph the larger group well.

Can we bring our dog?

For most outdoor family sessions, yes. My regular outdoor family locations are dog-friendly, and dogs are welcome in the Outdoor Family Deluxe Session, Redmond Mini, Rattlesnake Lake Mini, and lavender sessions.

For the Studio Family Mini Session, small and mid-sized pups are welcome, with the following studio rules: clean paws, a potty break before arrival, dogs staying off furniture, and no roaming near props or gear.

For some seasonal sessions, pets are not permitted because of farm policies.

How often should we take family photos?

Most families update family photos about once a year, especially when their children are young and changing quickly.

That does not mean every session needs to be big. Some years, a short mini session is enough for updated portraits, holiday cards, or a few new frames at home. Other years, a longer session makes more sense because you want more variety, grandparents included, or a fuller record of this stage.

A helpful way to think about it is this: book family photos when something feels noticeably different from the last time. That might be a toddler who suddenly looks like a little kid, missing teeth, a new school year, grandparents visiting, or simply realizing your last family photo no longer feels current.

What happens if it rains?

For outdoor sessions, I monitor the forecast before your session. When steady rain, high winds, or unsafe conditions are expected, we will reschedule.

Seattle weather can change quickly, so I use the most accurate information available as your session gets closer. Overcast skies and normal seasonal changes are not automatic reasons to reschedule.

Are sessions guaranteed to look like the sample photos?

No. Settings can change from year to year and even from week to week.

I choose seasonal locations carefully, but blooms, fields, foliage, weather, light, and the exact appearance of the location cannot be guaranteed. Your images will reflect the posing and editing style shown in the sample images for that session type, but every family and every outdoor setting is different.

The season adds the backdrop. Your family is still the focus.

When will we receive our photos?

You’ll receive your proof gallery within 4 days after your session.

After you choose your included images, final hand-edits are delivered within 7 days after your selections, as long as selections are submitted within the selection window. When selections are made late, the 7-day final-edit turnaround is no longer guaranteed.

Final images are delivered through an online gallery, with high-resolution files for personal printing and web-resolution files for online use.

What happens after we book?

After booking, you’ll receive the next steps for your session, including prep guidance and styling support.

For outdoor sessions, I’ll help you understand timing, location, what to expect, and how to prepare for the setting. For studio sessions, the prep is simpler, but you’ll still know what to wear, what to bring, and how the session will flow.

The goal is for you to arrive knowing what matters most and what you do not need to overthink.

How do we book a family session?

Choose the session that fits your family best, then use the booking button for that session.

You’ll pick an available date, fill out the booking form, and pay the deposit to reserve your spot. The remaining balance is due at the time of your session.

What Families Say After Their Sessions

Most parents do not come into a family session wondering whether they want beautiful photos. They already know they do.

The bigger question is whether the session will work with their kids, their schedule, their outfits, and the normal unpredictability of family life. These client notes are the part I hope you notice: families often arrive with those same worries, and they leave with photos that feel worth the effort.

Experience You Can Feel During the Session

After photographing Seattle-area families since 2008, I know how much parents are managing before a session: outfits, timing, kid moods, weather, and the hope that the final photos will feel worth the effort.

That experience helps me guide the session calmly, work with real children, and create family photos that feel natural without leaving you to figure everything out on your own.
