Seattle Maternity Photography: Studio and Outdoor Sessions

A calm, guided maternity experience that feels clear, manageable, and well-supported from the start.
If you are thinking about maternity photos, this page will help you compare outdoor and studio options, understand what the experience actually feels like, and choose the session that fits you best. You’ll find clear session options, pricing, timing guidance, and answers to the questions moms usually have before booking.

How I Help Expecting Moms Feel Prepared and Supported

I’ve been photographing growing families since 2008 and have worked with thousands of women, so the process feels clear, calm, and well-guided from the start.
Maternity photos can feel like one more thing to figure out during an already full season, especially if this is your first time booking professional photos. My job is to make the process feel manageable and well guided from the start. From booking through delivery, I walk you through each step so you know what to expect and do not have to piece it together on your own.

You do not need to arrive knowing how sessions work, how to pose, or what photographs well. I have worked with expecting moms in all kinds of seasons of life, and that experience helps me keep the process steady, simple, and clear.
You do not need to know how to pose. I guide you the entire time with gentle direction so the photos feel natural and still look polished and well put together.
This is one of the biggest worries moms have, and it is not something you need to solve before the session. I guide you the whole time with simple direction, while still leaving room for natural expression and connection.

The goal is not to make you perform for the camera or hold poses that feel stiff or unlike you. The goal is to help you settle in, feel comfortable, and create images that feel natural, calm, and true to this season.
You’ll get a detailed prep guide and access to an online styling service, so you’re not left trying to figure everything out on your own.
After booking, I send a detailed prep guide with practical clothing advice, along with access to an online styling service to help you coordinate outfits. I do not provide a maternity client wardrobe, so the goal is to help you choose pieces that photograph well and still feel like you.

In general, I recommend starting with Mom’s outfit first, then coordinating everyone else around it. Soft neutrals, simple textures, and pieces you can move in comfortably tend to work beautifully. If something feels restrictive to sit, walk, or breathe in, it usually will not feel good during the session either.
I offer both outdoor and studio maternity sessions, which makes it easier to choose the setting that feels right for you.
Some moms know right away that they want outdoor scenery and a more open Pacific Northwest feel. Others want an indoor session with a weather-proof plan and a more private setting. Neither is better. They are simply different fits.

If you want natural scenery, sunset light, and a more outdoor feel, that usually points to an outdoor session. If you want a calm indoor plan, a more controlled environment, or a cleaner studio look, a studio session may fit better. (Below, I break the options down more clearly so it is easier to choose the one that fits you best.)
My outdoor locations are selected with expecting moms in mind, and my studio options let you choose between a clean, minimal look and a warmer lifestyle feel.
For outdoor sessions, I choose locations that photograph beautifully but also work well for maternity clients in a practical sense. That means I am thinking not just about the view, but also about ease, comfort, and how the session will actually feel.

For studio sessions, you can choose between two distinct looks. My Kirkland studio gives you a clean, timeless, minimal feel. My Seattle studio offers a warmer, more textured lifestyle look. Both are designed to keep the focus on you and your family without making the session feel busy.
If your session is outdoors and it rains, I offer flexible rescheduling and make weather calls carefully, so you are not left stressing over the forecast.
Seattle weather is real, and I plan for that. If rain is in the forecast, I work with you to reschedule. In many cases, I wait until the morning of the session to make the final call, since the forecast can shift.

Timing matters too. The sweet spot for maternity photos is usually between 28 and 32 weeks, when your bump is clearly visible but you are often still feeling fairly comfortable. If you are booking for late fall or winter, I usually recommend scheduling a little earlier within that window in case weather forces us to move the date.
My pricing is straightforward and available online. You can see what is included before you book, with no surprise fees later.
You can review pricing before you book, so you are not reaching out just to find out the basics. My session details and pricing are available online so you can compare the options and make a decision with real information.

Booking is simple. Once you choose the session that fits best, you pick your date, fill out a short form, and pay your deposit online. After that, I send your prep information and next steps so you know exactly what comes next.
You’ll receive your proof gallery within four days, and your final edited images are delivered quickly after you make your selections.
After your session, you will receive your proof gallery within four days. From there, you choose your favorites, and I deliver your final hand-edited images within seven days of receiving your selections.

That means there is a clear next step after the session, too. You are not left wondering what happens next or waiting indefinitely to see your photos.

A print release is included with all purchased images, and additional images or a full gallery upgrade are available after you view your proofs.

Pick a Maternity Session That Fits You Best

Start by choosing the setting that feels right for you: outdoor or studio. Then decide whether you want a shorter Mini session or a fuller Deluxe session. If you already know you want newborn photos too, a package can make both milestones easier to plan.

After that, I will send a detailed prep guide, styling help, and any next steps for your session. For outdoor sessions, I also keep an eye on the weather and send location details before your shoot. After the session, you’ll receive a proof gallery within four days, choose your favorites, and get your final edited images within one week of sending me your picks.

When is the best time to take maternity photos?

The sweet spot is usually between 28 and 32 weeks, when your bump is nicely visible but you’re often still feeling fairly comfortable. That said, I’m happy to work around your schedule. I recommend booking at least a month ahead so you have the best choice of dates and enough time to prepare. If you are booking for late fall or winter, I usually recommend scheduling a little earlier within that 28-to-32-week window in case we need to reschedule due to weather.

Which maternity session is best for me?

Choose an outdoor session if you want natural scenery and an outdoor feel. Choose a studio session if you want an indoor setting, a simpler weather-proof plan, or more intimate, belly-focused images.

Choose a Deluxe session if you want the most variety, more time to settle in, and the option to include an outfit change. Choose a Mini session if you want a shorter, simpler session with less time commitment.

If you already know you want newborn photos too, a Maternity + Newborn Package is the easiest way to document both milestones with one plan.

How do I schedule a Maternity + Newborn Package?

You’ll start by booking the package, choosing a date for your maternity session, and sharing your due date with me. I’ll reserve space for your newborn session in advance, and once your baby arrives, we’ll choose the actual date. That way, you do not have to worry about scrambling to find availability after delivery.

What happens if it rains?

If your outdoor session lands on a rainy day, I’ll work with you to reschedule. Cloudy weather is completely fine and often gives us beautiful soft light, so sessions are not rescheduled for clouds alone.

What should we wear for the session?

After you book, I’ll send a detailed prep guide with styling advice to help you feel ready for the session. If you want a second opinion on outfits, you are always welcome to email me.

In general, I recommend choosing pieces you can move in comfortably. If you cannot sit, walk, shift, squat, or breathe naturally in it, it will probably feel restrictive during the session.

I do not currently offer a client wardrobe, but I do provide recommendations for where to purchase dresses or rent or purchase maternity gowns that photograph well.

Can I do an outfit change?

Yes. Outfit changes are a great fit for Deluxe sessions, especially if you want one more dressed-up look and one more casual look. For outdoor sessions, this usually means changing on location. I do not recommend planning an outfit change for a Mini session because there is not enough time.

We feel awkward in photos. Will you guide us?

Yes. You do not need to know how to pose yourself. I’ll guide you with gentle direction the whole time so you always know what to do, while still keeping the photos natural and connected. This is a big part of my process and one of the reasons many moms feel more comfortable than they expected.

What if my child doesn’t cooperate?

That is a very normal concern, and there is no expectation that your child has to perform for the camera. I follow their lead, keep things moving, and use simple prompts to help us capture natural moments. The goal is not stiff smiling-at-the-camera photos. The goal is to make space for real connection and get the strongest images we can from where your child is that day.

Can I buy additional images?

Yes. Mini sessions include 10 hand-edited images, and Deluxe sessions include 25 hand-edited images. After you see your proof gallery, you can purchase extra hand-edited images for $20 each or upgrade to the full proof gallery for $200.

Additional hand-edited images receive the same hand-editing as the images included in your package. The full proof gallery upgrade includes all of the images from your proof gallery with standard color edit only.

When will I get my photos?

You’ll receive your proof gallery within four days of your session. After you send me your favorites, I’ll deliver your final edited images within one week.

When and how do I pay?

A $100 deposit is required to reserve most sessions. The remaining balance is due at the time of your session, and payments are made by credit card.
