Bothell Newborn Photography for Studio and In-Home Photos

“Lana is easy to work with and makes you feel at ease during your session. She was great with our son and we couldn't be happier with how our photos turned out.” –Laura K.
Newborn photos happen during a busy, unpredictable season. Your baby may arrive earlier or later than expected, need frequent feeding or soothing, or have an older sibling who is still adjusting.

Your baby does not need to sleep the whole time, your toddler does not need to sit still, and your home does not need to look photo-ready for newborn photos to work.

I photograph newborns in my light-filled Kirkland studio and in homes throughout Bothell. Each session is built around your baby’s comfort, with time for feeding, soothing, changing, and the normal pauses newborns need.

I’ve photographed Eastside families since 2008. My process is simple: keep your baby safe and comfortable, guide the session flow and posing, and adapt to what your baby or older child needs that day. The goal is a gallery of natural, timeless newborn photos you’ll want to print, share, and come back to as your baby grows.

How Newborn Sessions Work with Real Baby Life

Awake or fussy babies are part of the session. Newborn sessions include time for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, wakefulness, and breaks. Your baby does not need to sleep through the whole appointment for us to create a newborn gallery you love.
Some babies sleep deeply. Some need more time in their parents’ arms. Some are awake for part of the session. That is normal.

I follow your baby’s cues and adjust the session as needed. We may pause for feeding, change the setup, simplify the pose, or photograph baby in your arms until they settle.

The goal is not to force one narrow version of a newborn session, but to work with the baby in front of us and create images that feel safe, natural, and connected.
Newborn posing should follow your baby. I watch how your baby responds and adjust the plan around comfort. Some poses may be simplified, changed, or skipped, because a safe, settled baby matters more than forcing one specific image that day.
Your baby’s comfort comes before a specific pose.

I use gentle posing and pay close attention to how your baby is responding. When something does not feel right for your baby, I change direction instead of pushing through.

That is part of why working with an experienced newborn photographer matters. A calm newborn session is not just about taking pretty photos. It is about knowing when to wait, when to adjust, and when to let the baby lead.
You do not need to know how to pose. Most parents do not know where to stand, best ways to hold the baby during the session, or what to do with their hands. I guide those small details so you are not figuring it out while holding a newborn.
You are not expected to direct the session or make everyone look comfortable on your own.

I’ll guide how to hold your baby, where to look, how close to stand, how to bring in an older sibling, and how to move from one setup to the next.

The goal is for the photos to feel natural without leaving you responsible for making the session work.
Siblings are guided too. Older siblings do not need to behave perfectly for photos to work. I keep the direction simple, watch what they can handle, and move through family images in a way that fits their age and mood.
Some toddlers are excited. Some need time. Some only give us a short window before they are done. That is expected.

Sibling photos may mean a quick snuggle on the bed, a kiss on baby’s head, sitting close for a few seconds, or giving an older child time to warm up before trying again.

I do not expect siblings to perform on command. I guide them through small, manageable moments.
Studio and in-home solve different needs. Studio sessions give you a ready-to-go space with soft light, wraps, props, and a clear plan. In-home sessions are helpful when staying home, including pets, or working around older sibling needs matters more.
Studio newborn sessions are a good choice when you want curated setups, a prepared space, soft natural light, newborn props, wraps, and a more styled newborn look.

In-home sessions are helpful when leaving the house feels like too much, when you want pets included more naturally, when older siblings may do better at home, or when your baby is past the earliest newborn window.

Neither option is better. They simply solve different problems.
Newborn scheduling starts with your due date. You reserve your spot by choosing the date on my calendar closest to your due date. Once your baby arrives, we confirm the actual session date based on birth timing and the session type you booked.
Babies rarely follow the calendar exactly.

For newborn sessions, the date you choose near your due date reserves your general spot. It is not meant to predict the exact day your baby will be photographed.

Once your baby is here, we confirm the actual session date.

If your baby has already arrived, choose a preferred date from the calendar or reach out with your baby’s birth date. Older newborns still have good session options, especially Baby In Your Arms and In-Home Lifestyle.
Your home does not need to be photo-ready everywhere. For in-home newborn photos, the baby is the star, not the house. We usually need a few workable areas with good light, not a spotless, fully decorated, magazine-ready home from room to room.
Your whole house does not need to be perfect.

For in-home newborn sessions, I usually look for a few usable areas: the nursery, primary bedroom, family room, or another simple space where your family can sit together near good light.

A few prepared areas matter much more than the condition of the entire home.

The home should feel like the place where you brought your baby, not like a styled photo set.
You will know what to prepare before the session. After booking, you receive prep guidance and access to an online styling service. The goal is to help you understand clothing, timing, and practical prep before the session day, not leave everything to the last minute.
For studio sessions, prep guidance helps you know what to bring, what to wear, and what to expect when you arrive.

For in-home sessions, the prep stays practical. We focus on clothing, light, and a few likely rooms instead of asking you to turn your whole house into a photo set.

The goal is to make the session easier to understand before the day arrives.

Choose Studio or In-Home Newborn Photos

Studio newborn sessions are for families who want a prepared space, soft natural light, wraps, props, simple backgrounds, and a clear studio plan. This is the better choice when you want the more styled newborn look and do not want to prepare your home for photos.

In-home newborn sessions are for families who want to stay home during the early weeks. This can be helpful when you are recovering, including pets, managing older siblings, or photographing a baby who is past the earliest newborn window.

Both options are baby-led and family-centered. The difference is the setting, the level of styling, and how much you want your home to be part of the final gallery.

Newborn Studio Sessions

Studio newborn sessions take place in my light-filled Kirkland studio. The studio is a good choice if you want a prepared space, soft natural light, newborn props, wraps, simple backgrounds, and a clear session plan without preparing your home.

Newborn In-Home Sessions

In-home newborn sessions take place in your home and are a good choice when leaving the house feels like too much, when you want siblings or pets included more naturally, or when you want these early days photographed in the place where they are actually happening. Your home does not need to look like a magazine. The baby is the star, not the house.

Newborn In-Home Lifestyle Session

Natural newborn photos at home with parents, siblings, pets, and the spaces connected to your baby’s first weeks
The session moves through the nursery, primary bedroom, and family room. I guide the posing and interactions while keeping the photographs connected to the way your family lives at home. You do not need to pack for the studio or ask a toddler or pet to adjust to a new place. The surroundings are familiar, and the photographs include more of where your baby’s earliest days are happening.

Newborn Session Questions, Answered

When should I book newborn photos?

I recommend booking before your baby arrives by choosing the date on my calendar closest to your due date. That date reserves your spot. Once your baby is here, we confirm the actual session date.

What if my baby is already here?

It is still worth reaching out. If your baby is already here, choose a preferred date from my calendar or contact me with your baby’s birth date. The date you select is not the actual shoot date until I confirm it, but it gives us a starting point.

If your baby is older than the earliest newborn window (5 to 21 days after birth), you still have options. The Baby In Your Arms session is available for babies up to 2 months old, and the In-Home Lifestyle session is available for babies up to 3 months old.

Is my baby too old for newborn photos?

Not necessarily.

The more posed studio newborn sessions usually work best between 5 and 21 days after birth. Older babies can still be photographed with an approach that depends less on sleepy newborn posing.

The Baby In Your Arms session and the In-Home Lifestyle session are the two options I usually recommend for older newborns.

For a deeper dive into timing, read: When to Schedule Your Newborn Photos: A Practical Guide for Real Life

What if my baby is awake or fussy?

That is normal. Newborn sessions include time for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and breaks. Some babies sleep deeply. Some are awake for part of the appointment. Some need more time in their parents’ arms.

I work with the baby in front of me and will not force a pose that does not make sense that day.

Which newborn session should I choose?

Choose Studio Deluxe if you want the most variety: posed baby portraits, parent images, sibling photographs, full-family portraits, and newborn detail.

Choose Baby In Your Arms if you want studio portraits focused on holding your baby.

Choose Mini Wrapped for a shorter studio session focused on styled wrapped baby portraits.

Choose In-Home Lifestyle when you want newborn photos in your home, with your baby photographed alone and with parents, siblings, and pets, and with the nursery or other familiar spaces included.

Should I choose studio or in-home newborn photos?

Choose the studio when you want a prepared setting, newborn props, curated setups, wraps, and a more styled final look.

Choose in-home when you want to stay home, include pets more easily, photograph the nursery or bedroom, or connect the photographs to your baby’s first weeks at home.

Are parent and sibling photos included?

It depends on the session.

Studio Deluxe includes parent, sibling, and family portraits. Pets may also be included.

Baby In Your Arms includes parent-baby images. Siblings and pets may also be included.

Mini Wrapped includes wrapped baby portraits in the base session. Parent, sibling, or family photographs can be added.

In-Home Lifestyle includes parents, siblings, and pets. Grandparents can also be included.

Can grandparents be included?

Grandparents can be included in the Newborn Studio Deluxe Session and the Newborn In-Home Lifestyle Session. Choose one of those options when grandparents are important to include.

Can we include our dog?

Dogs may be included when the session type supports it.

For studio sessions, dogs must be small to mid-sized, well-behaved, supervised, and kept off furniture. After their photos, it is usually best to have them wait outside or in the car when possible.

In-home sessions are often easier for families who want to include pets because the dog is already in a familiar space.

What should we wear for newborn photos?

After booking, you will receive prep guidance and access to an online styling service.

Soft neutrals, light colors, gentle texture, and simple clothing generally photograph well. The outfits should feel connected without matching or distracting from the baby.

Do I need to bring anything to the studio?

Wraps, headbands, bonnets, blankets, baskets, and newborn props are provided when they are included with your session.

Your prep guide will explain what to bring for your baby and family.

How should I prepare my home for an in-home newborn session?

Focus on a few likely areas, such as the nursery, primary bedroom, family room, or another space with good light. Make the bed if we may use the bedroom, clear the nightstands, and move obvious clutter from the areas where your family may sit or hold the baby.

We need a few usable spaces, not a fully styled home.

For a deeper dive into home prep, read: How to Prepare for an In-Home Newborn Session

Where is your studio located?

My studio is in downtown Kirkland at:

720 Market St, Ste E
Kirkland, WA 98033

The studio is light-filled, private, and set up for newborn and family photos.

What time are newborn sessions scheduled?

Newborn sessions are typically scheduled around 11 a.m. for the best light. Timing may be adjusted when needed.

How soon will I receive my photos?

Your proof gallery is delivered within 4 days after your session. Final hand-edited images are delivered within 7 days after your selections.

Can I buy more images after I see the proof gallery?

Yes. Additional hand-edited images are available for $20 each.

Some sessions also include a full-gallery or partial-gallery upgrade option. The available upgrade depends on the session you book.

How does payment work?

A $100 deposit is required to book your newborn session. The remaining balance is due at the time of your session.

Do you photograph newborn twins?

Yes. Twins can be photographed with the Newborn Studio Deluxe Session. The twins add-on is +$500 to the base price.

Do you offer albums and framed wall art?

Yes. Custom, museum-quality albums, framed wall art, and canvases are available.
