Planning Your Session (FAQ)

What should I expect from start to finish?

Here’s exactly how the process works, step by step:

  1. Pre-Booking: I believe in keeping everything clear and simple. On my website, you’ll find full details—session options, pricing, add-ons, and timelines—so there are no surprises. You can also browse thousands of photos in my newborn gallery and blog to get a feel for my style. And if you have questions, I’m always just a quick message away.
  2. Booking: Reserving your spot is quick and easy. Just head to my booking page, choose your preferred date, complete a brief form, and pay a $100 non-refundable deposit to book your session.
  3. Session Prep: Within 1–2 days of booking, I’ll send you a detailed prep guide with tips on what to wear, how to prepare your space, and what to expect. I’m also available by email or text if you need extra guidance.
  4. Confirming the Date: Babies arrive on their own schedule. Once your little one is here, simply send me an email, and we’ll finalize your session date (usually within 5 days–3 weeks after birth). You’ll receive the invoice for your balance the day before the session.
  5. Session Day: I’ll come to your home for a relaxed, baby-led session. We take breaks whenever needed for feeding, changing, or snuggles, so there’s never any rush. I’ll gently guide you and your family so you never have to wonder what to do, while still leaving room for natural, candid moments.
  6. After the Session: Within four days, you’ll receive a proof gallery of 60–80 images. From there, you’ll choose your favorite 20, or select upgrades if you’d like more. Once I receive your picks, I’ll deliver your final hand-edited (retouched) photos within about 7 days.
  7. Beyond the Session: It means so much to be invited into this chapter of your family’s life. My goal is not just to document your baby’s first weeks, but to help you build a meaningful collection of family photos as your child grows. You’ll also get priority access to future offerings and updates.
What makes you different from other photographers?

Every newborn photographer has their own approach, and it’s important to find someone whose style and personality feel like the right fit for your family. Here’s what you can expect when you work with me:

I’m known for being easygoing and down-to-earth, which helps everyone relax—even in those unpredictable newborn moments. With thousands of babies and families photographed since 2008, you can trust that I’ll keep your little one safe, soothed, and comfortable.

My style is timeless, natural, and family-centered—gentle tones, soft light, and authentic connection that will look as beautiful years from now as they do today. I keep my pricing transparent, with everything listed online, so there are no surprise fees or pushy sales tactics.

The process is designed to be as simple as possible: booking takes just a few minutes, you’ll get a detailed prep guide, and I offer flexible scheduling once your baby arrives. With hundreds of 5-star reviews and a quick, reliable turnaround, you can feel confident that you’re in caring and capable hands.

Which day do I pick when scheduling my session?

When booking, simply choose your due date (or the closest date to it). That “reserves your spot” on my calendar, so you don’t have to worry if your baby arrives a little early or late. Once your baby is born, we’ll finalize the actual session date—typically between five days and three weeks after birth.

If your baby has already arrived, just select your preferred date when booking. I’ll confirm availability or share a few other options to make sure we find a time that works.

And please don’t stress about timing—life with a newborn can be unpredictable. Whether your baby needs extra time in the hospital, you’re recovering from a C-section, or you simply need a little more space to settle in, I’ll do my best to adjust so the session feels right for you.

When is the best time to schedule an in-home newborn session?

You can reserve your newborn session at any time, but I recommend booking two to three months before your due date to ensure availability. My calendar fills quickly, and last-minute spots aren’t always possible.

If your baby is already here, no worries—just select your preferred date when booking. I’ll confirm availability or share a few other options so we can make it work.

The ideal time for newborn photos is usually between five days and four weeks after birth, when babies are still sleepy and love to curl up in your arms.

That said, every family is different, and I’ve photographed babies at two or even three months old. Sessions with older babies may look a little different—more eye contact, sweet smiles, and little personality shining through—but they’re just as beautiful and meaningful.

Which areas do you serve?

For in-home newborn sessions, I travel throughout the Seattle area and Eastside—any home within 25 miles of my studio is included. (My studio is located in Kirkland’s charming Market Neighborhood at 720 Market St Ste E, Kirkland, WA 98033.)

If you live a little farther away, I’m happy to come to you; a small travel fee ($100–$200) applies for extended distances.

Do you provide props?

For in-home sessions, I keep things simple and natural so the focus stays on your baby and family. I bring along a few timeless props—soft blankets, neutral wraps, and a classic basket—that work beautifully in a home setting.

If you’re looking for a more styled session with a wider variety of props and set-ups, you may want to explore my studio newborn photography options.

What is the best way to dress for our in-home session?

After you book, I’ll send you a detailed prep guide with styling tips to make getting ready simple and stress-free. You’re also welcome to email me outfit photos if you’d like a second opinion—I’m always happy to help.

In general, think comfortable, neutral, and timeless. Soft tones like whites, grays, creams, blacks, and light earth tones always photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby and your family’s connection. Flowy fabrics, cozy knits, and simple textures add warmth without feeling fussy.

For babies, a plain white onesie or a soft romper is perfect. Siblings look great in neutral, solid colors that coordinate but don’t match exactly—it keeps things natural and relaxed.

Try to avoid busy patterns, large logos, neon colors, or anything with writing, as these can be distracting in photos and take away from the clean, timeless look. The goal is for your gallery to feel classic now and just as beautiful when you look back on it years from now.

We are not good at taking pictures; will you guide us?

Absolutely. After photographing thousands of families, I’ve developed a relaxed, natural flow that takes the pressure off. I’ll gently guide and direct you the entire time—adjusting hands, angles, and positions so you look your best—while also leaving space for those sweet, candid moments that happen naturally.

Most parents tell me they were surprised by how easy and enjoyable the session felt. You don’t need to worry about being “photogenic” or knowing what to do—that’s my job. Your only job is to enjoy your baby and each other, and I’ll take care of the rest.

How should we prep our house for the in-home newborn session?

Please don’t stress about having a picture-perfect home—I know life with a newborn can be messy, and that’s completely normal. We’ll keep things simple and focus on the spots that matter most: near windows with good light, the baby’s nursery (if it’s set up), and your bedroom. These areas usually need only a quick tidy—think clearing nightstands or moving laundry baskets out of view.

If I see anything small that might be distracting, I’ll help adjust it during the session. Truly, you don’t need to deep clean or redecorate—what matters most is the warmth and love in your home, and that’s what will shine through in your photos.

Can our pet be part of the in-home newborn session?

Yes—pets are always welcome! They’re an important part of the family, and I love including them in a few shots. Whether it’s your dog curled up at your feet, a cat peeking into the crib, or a gentle snuggle on the couch, these moments add so much personality to your gallery.

When booking, just let me know if your pet will be joining us so I can plan ahead. We’ll keep things relaxed and safe, making sure your baby is always comfortable.

Can extended family join the session?

Yes, absolutely! Grandparents (and other close family) are always welcome to join for a few meaningful photos—at no extra cost. These moments are especially cherished, and I usually photograph them in the family room or even outside in the backyard if the weather is nice.

When booking, please let me know if extended family will be joining, so I can plan our flow accordingly and ensure we capture those special connections.

When and how do I pay?

All payments are made by credit card. To reserve your session, a $100 non-refundable deposit is required at booking.

The remaining balance is due on the day of your session, and I’ll send you a friendly invoice reminder the day before. Once the balance is paid, your proof gallery will be delivered—so everything stays simple and stress-free.

Can I buy additional images?

Yes! Your newborn session includes 20 hand-edited images that you select from a proof gallery of about 60–80 photos. If you’d like more, you can purchase additional hand-edited images for $20 each. Details and easy purchase options will be included with your online gallery.

You also have the option to upgrade to the full gallery for $200, which includes every image from your proof gallery with a standard color edit. (See the next question for more on the difference between hand editing and standard editing.)

All of your chosen photos are delivered in full resolution with print rights, so you can print them freely for your home or as gifts for loved ones.

Standard edit vs. hand-edit: what’s the difference?

A standard edit (color correction) gives your entire gallery a clean, polished look. It evens out exposure, brightens the tones, and ensures the colors look natural.

A hand edit (retouching) goes further. Each selected image is individually refined with gentle skin smoothing, blemish or bruise removal, flyaway cleanup, and more detailed color adjustments. These subtle touches make the photos especially beautiful for printing, albums, and heirloom keepsakes you’ll treasure for years.

When and how will I get my images?

Your online proof gallery will be ready four days after your session. From there, you’ll have seven days to select your 20 favorites for hand editing.

Once I receive your selections, I’ll deliver your final hand-edited photos within seven days through a private online gallery—easy to view and download.

If you choose the full gallery upgrade, you’ll receive your download link within 48 hours of payment.

If it takes you longer than seven days to make your selections, that’s completely okay—it will just take a little extra time on my end to finish your edits once you’re ready.
