Seattle & Eastside Fall Foliage Family Sessions

“Simply put, Lana is amazing! We booked a family mini-session and she sent us a lot of helpful information on how to choose outfits, how to plan for color palettes, and what to expect on the day of the photoshoot. Lana was very communicative and most importantly, we just enjoyed our time with her!” –Sally
There’s something about family photos in the fall. The deeper greens, golds, oranges, and changing leaves give the photographs warmth and texture that you simply don’t get during the rest of the year.

If that rich fall look is what you love, these sessions are planned specifically for it.

For 2026, I’ll be photographing at Juanita Bay Park in Kirkland. I schedule the sessions around the time I expect the best fall color and use the setting in a mix of ways. Some photographs will show more of the trees and landscape. Others will come in closer, where the fall color becomes a softer background around your family.

A mini session is short and moves quickly, so I make good use of our time together. We won’t spend it all standing in one spot and smiling at the camera.

I’ll move through different groupings, give you clear direction, and work with whatever your children bring that day. We’ll get the classic family portraits, along with walking, cuddling, laughter, and the little in-between moments that add variety to the gallery.

Juanita Bay makes the logistics easy too. There’s convenient parking, a short walk to where we’ll photograph, and an on-site bathroom. Dogs are welcome.

These sessions are primarily for family photos, but an expecting mom may also book one for maternity photographs.

The Fall Look, with Your Family at the Center of It

The photographs below are from last year’s fall sessions at Juanita Bay Park, so you can see how the location looks once the leaves begin to turn.

What you wear has a noticeable impact on the finished gallery. Fall already brings plenty of color and texture, so I recommend choosing outfits that complement the setting. After booking, I’ll send specific guidance for colors, coordination, and what photographs well in this setting.

You’ll see a mix of wider portraits that show the fall scenery, closer family photographs, children on their own, siblings together, movement, quieter moments, and the classic everyone-looking-at-the-camera portraits.

The result is a gallery that feels distinctly fall without making every photograph about the background.

FAQs

What happens if it rains?

I keep a close eye on the forecast as your session approaches. Because Seattle weather can change quickly, I make the final call the morning of the session.

We’ll reschedule in the event of steady rain or other uncomfortable conditions. Cloudy skies and normal seasonal changes are not reasons to move the session.

If the weather requires us to reschedule and we can’t find another date that works for you, I’ll refund your deposit.

Will the fall color look like these photos?

No two falls are identical. The timing and intensity of the color can change from year to year. Some years the leaves turn earlier; other years they stay green longer. I schedule these sessions for the time of year when I expect fall color, but the photographs on this page are examples from previous seasons, not a guarantee of exactly the same foliage.

What should we wear?

After booking, I’ll send detailed recommendations for colors, coordination, and what photographs well at this location. I recommend using that guidance when planning everyone’s outfits, and you’re always welcome to email me with questions or send outfit options if you’re unsure.

What if my children don’t cooperate?

They don’t need to cooperate perfectly. I’ve been photographing Seattle-area families since 2008, and I don’t expect children to follow directions perfectly for an entire session.

I’ll keep changing what we’re doing. We might take the family portrait first, walk for a bit, photograph the kids together, or give a child something to do instead of repeatedly asking for a smile.

You don’t need to spend the session trying to manage every expression or force smiles. I’ll guide the pace and make every reasonable effort to engage them, although no particular smile or expression can be guaranteed.

Will you tell us what to do during the session?

Absolutely. I’ll tell you where to stand, how to turn, what to do with your hands, where to look, and how close everyone should be.

Sometimes I’ll ask everyone to look at me. Other times, I may have you walk together, look at your child, pull someone closer, or interact with each other. You won’t be standing there wondering what you’re supposed to do next.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes. Dogs are welcome at these sessions.

Can grandparents join us?

Yes. You may add up to four grandparents for $35 each. The base session includes your immediate family.

Can I book this for maternity photos?

Yes. I generally recommend scheduling maternity photos around 28–32 weeks, when your bump is well defined but you’re still reasonably comfortable for the session.

If that window lines up with my fall session dates and you love the fall foliage look, you’re welcome to book a Fall Foliage Mini Session for maternity photos.

If the timing doesn’t line up, or you’d like more time or additional outdoor and studio options, explore other Maternity Sessions here.

Can I purchase additional photos?

Yes. Your session price includes 10 individually hand-edited photographs, which you’ll choose from a proof gallery of approximately 40–60 images.

If you’d like more than the 10 included photographs, additional hand-edited images are $20 each, or you may purchase the full proof gallery with standard color correction for $200.

When will I receive my photos?

Your proof gallery will be ready within four days after your session. You’ll have seven days to choose your photographs. When you make your selections in that window, your final hand-edited images will be delivered within seven days of receiving your choices.

When do I pay?

A $100 non-refundable deposit reserves your session. The remaining balance is due on the day of the session. I’ll send an invoice reminder the day before, and all major credit cards are accepted.
