My Outdoor Maternity + Studio Newborn Package: What to Know Before You Book
If you are thinking about documenting both pregnancy and your baby’s early days, this guide will help you understand how this package works, who it fits best, and what the full experience can look like from the outdoor maternity session through the newborn studio session.
If you already know you want both maternity and newborn photos, one of the biggest advantages of booking a package is that you do not have to figure everything out twice.
You can plan ahead during pregnancy, reserve your newborn spot before the baby arrives, and move through both milestones with one clear plan, rather than trying to piece it together later.
I have been photographing families since 2008, and one thing I have seen again and again is how much parents value having both of these seasons documented once time has passed. Pregnancy and the newborn stage feel completely different while you are in them, and that is part of why they matter so much together.
My Outdoor Maternity + Studio Newborn Package is for families who want scenic maternity photos now and the fullest studio newborn experience later. It pairs my Outdoor Maternity Deluxe Session with my Newborn Studio Deluxe Session, so you can have maternity photos outdoors at one of my scenic Seattle-area locations, then come back later for a fully guided newborn session in my Kirkland studio.
This post is here to help you decide whether that combination feels like the right fit for your family. I’ll walk you through why some families prefer to plan both sessions together, who this package usually works best for, how the process flows, and what real full-package galleries can look like from one milestone to the next.

Why Some Families Choose to Plan Both Sessions Together

For many families, the biggest value in this package is not only the savings. It is the clarity.
You make one decision during pregnancy, reserve your newborn spot in advance, and know the plan is already in place when life feels fuller and less predictable after the baby arrives.
There is also something meaningful about documenting both milestones with one consistent approach. The maternity session happens while you are still waiting, preparing, and imagining. The newborn session happens once your baby is here and everything has shifted. Having both gives you a fuller record of that transition.
This package is also a strong fit for families who want the fullest version of both sessions.
For maternity photos, this package includes my Outdoor Maternity Deluxe session, which offers the widest range of locations, a longer session with a little more breathing room, and enough time for a fuller gallery.
For newborn photos, this package includes my Studio Newborn Deluxe Session, which allows for parent and sibling photos, posed baby portraits, multiple setups, and a slower pace with time for feeding, soothing, and breaks as needed.
Who This Package Is Best For

This package is usually the best fit for families who:
- already know they want to document both milestones
- want outdoor maternity photos with natural scenery
- want the fullest studio newborn experience later
- like the idea of planning ahead during pregnancy
- want one clear plan instead of booking each session separately
It is especially helpful for parents who know they feel better when the next step is already taken care of. Once the baby arrives, there is already enough to think about. Having your newborn session reserved in advance takes one more thing off your plate.
This may not be the best fit if you already know you would rather stay home for your newborn session, want a simpler newborn option, or only want to document one milestone right now.

How the Experience Flows from Maternity to Newborn
One of the reasons I like offering these packages is that the process stays straightforward.
You start by booking the package and choosing a date for your maternity session. The ideal timing for maternity photos is usually between 28 and 32 weeks, though I am always happy to work around your schedule.
After booking, I send prep information and styling guidance. For the maternity session, I will also send outdoor location options based on the season, so you can choose the one that feels like the best fit for you.
When you book, you will also share your due date. I use that to reserve space for your newborn session in advance. Since babies arrive on their own schedule, the due date is simply a placeholder. Once your baby is here, we choose the actual newborn session date, usually sometime between 5 days and 3 weeks after birth.
That is one of the biggest practical advantages of the package. You do not have to scramble to find newborn availability after delivery. The plan is already in place, and we simply confirm the date once your baby arrives.

What This Package Can Look Like in Real Life
One thing I wanted this post to do is show you what this package can actually look like, not just describe it in the abstract.
Each gallery below includes both parts of the experience: the outdoor maternity session first, followed by the newborn session in my studio. So rather than thinking of these as maternity location samples only, think of them as full package stories. They show how different the maternity portion can feel depending on the setting you choose, while the newborn portion brings everything back into a calmer, more intimate studio space once your baby arrives.
1. Discovery Park Maternity Session + Studio Newborn Session
This family’s maternity session was photographed in the fall at Seattle Discovery Park, with their newborn session taking place later in my studio.
Discovery Park is one of my most versatile maternity locations. It offers open grassy areas, beach access, and enough room to create a good variety without the session feeling rushed or repetitive. It is also a strong option across different seasons, which makes it one of the easier locations to recommend when families want flexibility.

In Client’s Words
“Lana did a maternity session and a newborn session for us. For the maternity session, she let us pick an outdoor location that we were familiar with, and she was so great and patient with our dog. The photos were taken during the golden hour, and they turned out beautifully.
“For the newborn session, she was flexible and able to schedule us just a week after our baby was born, despite our baby arriving early. She had me provide input on poses, colors, and styles I liked before the baby arrived, and had all of my preferences laid out when we arrived to help the shoot go more smoothly. She had countless beautiful props to choose from and was very patient and flexible as the baby needed to feed throughout the session.
“We are extremely happy with all of the photos that we received and highly recommend Lana for family photos.” –Bethany
2. Mukilteo Beach Maternity Session + Studio Newborn Session
This family’s maternity session was photographed at Mukilteo Beach in the summer, and their newborn session took place later in my studio.
If you love the idea of a beach maternity session, this is a beautiful option. It has a lighter, more coastal feel than some of my other locations, and it works especially well during summer and early fall when the weather is milder.

3. Snoqualmie River Maternity Session + Studio Newborn Session
This family’s maternity session was photographed in the spring at the Snoqualmie River, with their newborn session happening later in my studio.
This location is a great fit if you want something that feels distinctly Pacific Northwest without being too dramatic or hard to access. It offers texture, greenery, and a little more mood, and I usually photograph here from late spring into early fall.

In Client’s Words
“Lana is very personable and extremely talented! She provided the best experience I’ve ever had with a photographer. Lana photographed my family for my maternity photos and newborn photos, and they came out perfect. She really put us at ease and made each session an enjoyable experience. There were so many beautiful photos to choose from.” –Aly
4. Rattlesnake Lake Maternity Session + Studio Newborn Session
This family’s maternity session was photographed at Rattlesnake Lake, with the newborn session taking place in my Kirkland studio.
If you want mountains, trees, water, and a more dramatic Pacific Northwest backdrop, this is one of my strongest options. It is especially helpful in winter because it stays visually beautiful at a time of year when some locations feel more limited. It is also a good choice if you want a scenic look that is easily accessible.

5. Redmond Park Maternity Session + Studio Newborn Session
This family’s maternity session was photographed in a Redmond park, with the newborn session taking place in my studio.
This can be a very good fit if you live on the Eastside and want something local, simple, and scenic. I photograph at this particular park during late spring and summer, and I also have other Redmond-area maternity locations that are available at different times of year.

FAQs
I recommend booking at least a month in advance for the maternity session, and earlier is often even better if you want the best choice of dates. The ideal timing for maternity photos is usually between 28 and 32 weeks.
That is completely fine. When you book the package, I reserve your newborn spot based on your due date. Once your baby arrives, we will choose the actual newborn session date.
If the weather does not cooperate, I will work with you on rescheduling. Cloudy weather is usually fine. Rain is the main reason we would move the session.
At this time, I do not offer a client wardrobe. After booking, I send a prep guide with styling guidance and recommendations on where to rent or purchase gowns and dresses that photograph well.
Yes. You do not need to know how to pose for either session. I guide you every step of the way, so you are never left guessing what to do.
You will receive your proof gallery within four days after each session. After you send me your selections, your final hand-edited images will be delivered within seven days.
In that case, my Outdoor Maternity + In-Home Newborn Package is usually the better fit.
