If you love the soft, timeless look of wrapped newborn portraits and want a shorter session, this post will give you a clear feel for what the Newborn Studio Mini Wrapped Session is like.

This is a shorter studio session focused mainly on your baby, with the option to add parents, siblings, and even grandparents if you would like them included. It is designed to feel calm and manageable in those early weeks, while still giving you a cohesive set of images that feels polished and complete.

The Newborn Mini Wrapped Session takes place in my Kirkland studio, and many families come in from Seattle and the Eastside. The experience is meant to feel low-stress from the start, with everything prepared before you arrive.

What This Session Is Meant to Deliver

The Mini Wrapped Session is intentionally streamlined. Your baby stays gently wrapped throughout, and we create three distinct setups in one color theme for a soft, cohesive gallery.

Within those three setups, I still aim for variety: different angles, tiny details, and a mix of close, intimate images with a few wider frames to round things out.

The goal is to leave you with a collection of seven digital images that feels finished, thoughtful, and easy to enjoy in print.

In Client’s Words
“Lana did amazing with our newborn, who was one week old when the photoshoot took place. We booked the newborn mini session, and were in and out in one hour. If you feel anxious about getting this done, don’t; she really knows all the tricks to calm babies and was so gentle and kind. I really recommend her and appreciate her professionalism. She responds to emails and text messages promptly and provides you with all the information you need to feel at ease and prepare for the shoot. Can’t thank her enough for the experience!” –Christina

Why Wrapped Newborn Photos Work So Well for a Mini Session

Wrapped posing is gentle, efficient, and naturally calming for many babies. Because your baby stays wrapped, we can move through setups smoothly without repeatedly transitioning your baby in and out of different positions. That is a big part of what allows the session to stay shorter.

Unwrapped newborn posing is beautiful too, but it usually takes longer. Those transitions require more time for settling, soothing, and safely guiding the baby through a slower flow. That is why unwrapped posing is usually a better fit for a longer newborn session rather than this shorter wrapped format.

The Mini Wrapped Session is different on purpose. It gives you the wrapped look you love in a simpler, shorter experience that still creates a polished, cohesive gallery.

How the Session Flows

I’ve photographed thousands of babies, and I’ve built this session flow to feel calm, efficient, and consistent, so you can settle in and trust the process.

When you arrive, we take a moment to get settled. The goal is never to make the experience feel rushed. Even in a shorter session, the flow is meant to stay gentle and baby-led.

If you’ve added parent, sibling, or family photos, I usually do those first. That way, everyone is fresh, and siblings have a clear beginning and end.

I guide the entire process, including posing, hands, angles, and where to look, so you do not need to come in knowing what to do. You just show up, exhale, and let me take care of the details.

From there, we move into the wrapped portion of the session and work through the three setups.

Sessions are typically scheduled around 11 a.m. because that is when my studio light is at its best: soft, flattering, and consistent.

Styling and Props: Simple Choices, Beautifully Customized

After booking, I’ll send you a detailed prep guide and ask you to choose a color palette from a curated list. I’ll also ask about any colors you do not want to use, because sometimes knowing what to avoid is just as helpful as knowing what you love.

When it comes to styling, I like to keep things flexible and personal. During session prep, I’ll ask whether you’d like me to include props such as baskets, tiny beds, crates, boxes, and styled setups, or if you’d prefer a more natural look using blankets and fabric backgrounds. Most families enjoy a blend of both, but the final styling is based on your preference.

Everything needed to photograph your baby is already here in the studio: wraps, bonnets, headbands, backgrounds, and a full collection of newborn props and textures that photograph beautifully and hold up well over time.

What You Receive (And How Image Selection Works)

A Mini Wrapped Session includes 7 hand-edited, high-resolution digital images, chosen by you from a proof gallery of approximately 15–25 images. If you’d like more than the 7 included, you’re welcome to purchase additional hand-edited images after you view your proofs.

Your proof gallery is delivered within 4 days. Once you choose your favorites, your final hand-edited images are delivered within 7 days.

All purchased images include a print release, so you can print as many as you’d like for your home and gifts.

This structure is intentional. It keeps the session simple and the collection focused while still giving you the option to build a larger gallery if you would like.

Optional Add-Ons, Thoughtfully Designed

Some families want baby-only portraits. Others want a few family images too, but still want the mini format. That is why add-ons are available Ă  la carte.

When add-ons are included, we photograph them first, then move on to the baby-only wrapped setups.

Parent Portraits Add-On

This add-on includes the baby with both parents, plus the baby individually with each parent. It is guided the entire time and designed to feel natural, with simple posing, flattering angles, and calm direction, so you do not have to think about what to do.

You’ll receive 5 hand-edited images, and this add-on adds 30 minutes to your session time.

Sibling Portraits Add-On

Sibling portraits are included exactly as your family is, with no age requirements and no pressure to make everything feel perfect. My aim is to document your family honestly and keep the experience positive.

You’ll receive 5 hand-edited images, and this add-on adds 30 minutes to your session time.

Family Portraits Add-On

Family portraits can include parents, siblings, and up to four grandparents, all together with your baby. It is a lovely option for families who want a generational image while everyone is in town, or who simply want to document this season more fully.

You’ll receive 5 hand-edited images, and this add-on adds 30 minutes to your session time.

Post-Session Upgrades for Families Who Want More Images

If you’d like to expand your gallery after viewing your proofs, you have a few options.

Additional hand-edited images are available for $20 each.

If you included parent, sibling, and/or family photos, you can also purchase all family images from the proof gallery for $200. These images are color-corrected rather than fully retouched and typically include around 20–30 photographs. This upgrade is a good fit if you want the full feel of your family portion.

One important note: a Mini Wrapped Session cannot be upgraded to a Deluxe Session after the session is complete. These are two different experiences with different preparation and pacing. If you think you may want the fuller Deluxe experience, it is better to plan for that from the start.

Sample Galleries

Below are a few examples to show exactly what a Mini Wrapped Session looks like and how the add-ons shape the final collection.

Each option is designed with the same long-term goal in mind: a gallery that feels cohesive, meaningful, and easy to enjoy in your home.

Baby-Only Mini Wrapped Session

This is the classic Mini Wrapped Session: 7 hand-edited images selected from a proof gallery of 15–25, styled in one color theme across three wrapped setups. The goal is a cohesive set that works beautifully as a small series of framed prints or a statement piece.

Mini Wrapped Session with Parent Add-On

This option combines baby-only wrapped portraits with a small set of family images you’ll be glad to have later. You’ll receive 5 hand-edited parent images, including baby with both parents and baby individually with each parent, plus 7 hand-edited baby images. It is a balanced collection that works well for wall art and also gives you enough variety to begin telling a fuller story in an album.

Best Timing for Your Newborn Mini Wrapped Session

The Mini Wrapped Session is recommended for babies 5 days to 3 weeks old.

If your baby is older than three weeks, many babies become more sensitive to being posed, and they often settle most naturally in their parents’ arms. That is why I usually recommend the Baby In Your Arms Studio Session for older newborns.

That said, if you still want to proceed with a Mini Wrapped Session for an older baby, we absolutely can. I’ll simply guide you with realistic expectations. We may not achieve every pose or look that I typically get with a younger newborn, but the goal is still to create the best possible gallery for your baby and this stage.

Thinking Ahead: How You Want to Use Your Images

Documenting this season makes it last, and a lot of the long-term joy comes from seeing those images in your home.

The Mini Wrapped Session creates a cohesive set that works especially well for framed statement pieces, fine-art canvases, and float frames.

Because the gallery is designed around one color theme and three coordinated setups, it is easy to display the images together without them feeling visually scattered.

If you’re dreaming of an album, you’ll typically want more than the seven images included in the base session. With parent or family add-ons and additional hand-edited images, you can build a gallery that feels full enough to tell the story in album form.

A Mini Wrapped Session includes a print release, which means you are free to print your images anywhere you’d like for personal use.

If you prefer a done-for-you approach, I also offer a curated collection of heirloom products, including albums, wall art, and fine-art prints. If you’re interested, we can talk through those options during session prep so I can help you choose what makes the most sense for your home and lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sleeping newborn wrapped in deep blue fabric on a muted teal backdrop with soft star accents, photographed during a mini studio newborn session in Seattle.

When should I book, and what if my baby arrives early or late?

I recommend booking in advance by selecting the date on my calendar closest to your due date. This reserves your spot ahead of time, and once your baby arrives, we will finalize the actual session date.

Babies rarely arrive exactly on schedule, so flexibility is built into the process. If your baby comes early or late, we simply adjust from there.

Can I decide on add-ons later?

Yes, within reason. If you are unsure when you book, that is completely fine. The main thing is letting me know before your session day so I can plan the timing and styling properly. Add-ons change the flow of the session, and you may also want a little time to prepare outfits for parent or family photos. A bit of notice helps everything feel smoother.

What should we bring to the studio?

Keep it simple. Bring the basics you would normally pack for an outing: diapers, wipes, a pacifier (even if your baby does not always take one), and a bottle if you are bottle-feeding or like having one as a backup. If you have a special sentimental item you would like included, you are welcome to bring it. I have everything else here in the studio, including wraps, props, and backgrounds.

What if my baby won’t sleep?

That is completely normal and never a problem. I adjust the session flow to your baby’s needs, whether that means extra feeding, soothing, or snuggle breaks.

If your baby decides not to sleep, we will proceed with awake images. Awake photos can be just as beautiful, with open eyes, curious expressions, and all the tiny details that make your baby uniquely them. Every newborn brings their own personality to the session, and I work with that in a calm, natural way.

Do you retouch baby acne, jaundice, or scratches?

Yes, I gently retouch temporary changes in newborn skin. Things like flaky skin, redness, baby acne, and small scratches are completely normal, and my editing approach is to soften them while still keeping your baby’s skin looking real and natural.

If your baby is noticeably jaundiced, the best solution is often to wait a few extra days for it to clear up naturally, rather than trying to correct it entirely in editing. If that happens, we can talk through your timing and adjust the session date when it makes sense.

What if someone in our family is sick?

If anyone in your family is sick, I will ask you to reschedule. That helps protect the other families I photograph in the studio. If that happens, we will simply move the session to a better date.

What should we wear if we add parent or family photos?

I will send you a prep guide and styling help so you do not have to guess. The goal is simple, timeless, and natural, with pieces that feel like you and will still look good years from now.

How long does it take to get our photos back?

You’ll receive your proof gallery within 4 days after your session. Final digital images are delivered within 7 days of your selections.
